What our visitors say about us, these are in order of when received.
"stayed for 5 nights excellent pitches 16amp electrics own tap and grey water dump Ken & Alison mine hosts really looked after you while there walks close by, village about 1/2 mile away for any forgotten groceries."

"Everything clean, lovely, quiet & a peaceful setting. The owners, Ken & Alison [& Boomerang!] could not do enough for us. They are so helpful and very kind. Nothing was any trouble to them. It certainly is a hidden gem of a place, just outside the village of Great Broughton. There are five grass pitches all with its own EHU, Water tap and drainage point. The area is well kept and maintained. Very dog friendly. There is a really good circular walk from the site with spectacular views."

"wow! what a lovely site, an absolute hidden gem, which once discovered and enjoyed by more people, will become a firm favourite with lots of returning visitors I am sure! we will 100% be back. the site is beautifully kept, the pitch and waste facilities are spotless. the owners are so friendly and always on hand to check if you need anything. lovely walks direct from the site and a really great base to explore a bit further a field. we didn't need the leveller but used our chocks so we could look out onto the pond. it was lovely looking out spotting all the birds and wildlife. we had a lot of rain whilst we were there but no drainage issues at all with the ground remaining nice and firm. TV reception, phone reception and internet signals all great. kids and dogs had a wonderful time and we are super refreshed. recommended!!!!"

"Welcoming and very friendly, really enjoyed our 3 night stay."

"Beautiful location and a warm welcome. Well laid out site in peaceful surroundings and environment. Ideally placed for coast, lakes, by bus, bike, road."

"Lovely site, well laid out, spotlessly clean. Enjoyed watching the ducklings on the pond. Close to the coast and the Lakes, and also just nice to stand and stare! Thanks to Alison and Ken for their hospitality, we will be back."

"A lovely little site, we really enjoyed our stay and hope to visit again soon :-)"

Wonderful warm welcome from Alison and Ken, great craic with like minded people. We had a really lovely weekend, despite the weather being a tad on the damp side! A really enjoyable stay and we will be back! The facilities are really great and good value too. This little site is a gem.

"Had a fantastic stay at Tranby CL Site. Can’t recommend the site and owners Ken and Alison enough. Site was immaculate with electric hook up, water and grey/toilet waste disposal. Great pitches all overlooking the tranquil lake with lovely local walks. We also had the privilege to purchase some tasty homegrown tomatoes and home-made jam. Ken and Alison definitely give each and every guest the very best of warm welcomes, whether they are staying one night or a week. We will definitely be returning."

"Thoroughly recommend Tranby, Ken and Alison are so friendly and we are very much looking forward to returning"

"Lovely, tranquil site, very friendly, helpful hosts and fantastic value for money. We’ll be back!"

"This is an absolute gem of a CL. The pitches are a good sized on short cut grass. Weather was mixed during our stay with some heavy downpours but pitches were well drained and so no problems. Each pitch has 16 amp EHU, waste and water (a pretty trough of flowers at each pitch).
It’s a 20-25 min drive to stunning North Lakes. A short drive to coast and Cockermouth.
The owners met us on arrival and are so friendly and helpful (offered to help put up our awning in the rain). They stopped by for a chat most days and to check that everything was ok and shared their home grown tomatoes and cucumbers with us (delicious).
This is a new CL and is a credit to Ken and Alison. We will be back and highly recommend Tranby CL."

"We had a lovely 4 night stay at Tranby CL. Ken and Alison are lovely owners, very welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. They were really helpful and pointed out so many lovely walks direct from the site. We loved having a fully serviced pitch and everything was so clean. It rained heavily for 1 day but this was not a problem as the grass pitches seemed to drain really well. We reluctantly left, feeling very relaxed but will definitely return to do more of the walks we didn't have time to do. Thank you for the free home grown tomatoes Alison, they were delicious. This CL site is truly a hidden Gem and will not disappoint.
Tips for other travellers
Beautiful walking direct from the site which incorporated woodland, a fabulous lake and commanding views of the mountains in the distance. Fabulous walk along the river where we spotted an endangered yellow wagtail bird and a heron. We loved the village which had a shop and a few pubs and lots of really old buildings and houses. The shop and pubs were all extremely welcoming and friendly. Fabulous days out in Maryport and Allonby which have huge beaches and the CL is not far from Cockermouth which also has lovely walks."

"New site with welcoming owners, who go above and beyond to help and make your stay memorable, with home grown tomatoes and delivery of local produce on offer. They have plans to install a toilet block for next year which would make it a perfect wee site (but don’t tell anyone that as it would be always fully booked then!!)"

"We saw this site recommended on Facebook and decided to book it for our return journey from Scotland. What an absolute gem of a site. Ken and Alison are such lovely owners who make you feel so welcome. Pitches have 16 amp electric, fresh water and grey waste. Elson point and recycling also within easy reach! Paddock that the 5 pitches are situated on, are immaculately kept. Perfect dog walks straight from the site and perfectly situated for exploring the Lake District. It’s lovely when you leave after a break and feel like you’ve made genuine friends…..and been given cherry tomatoes and ‘Dad’s fuel’ Ken’s hot chilli sauce!!! Thank you so much and you will be seeing us again, that’s for sure!!! Malcolm and Julia aka DI Kicks and Vera lol xx"

"Thank you Ken and Alison for a wonderful stay and we really appreciated your friendliness and hospitality. We will be back if we pass this way in future !!"

"Just home after a 2 week break at Tranby CL Site the loveliest CL we’ve been at so far. Owners (Ken and Alison) are so friendly and helpful. The site has large fully serviced well draining grass pitches and all essential waste collection provided for. Located in a quiet secluded area overlooking a pond full of wildlife surrounded by trees provides a circular dog walk along a bridal path which takes you into the village of Great Broughton. We will definitely be back to this little gem of a site!"

"Purely by chance we saw this site on Facebook and booked for 4 nights . I’m so glad we did , the site is immaculately kept and the owners Ken and Alison were friendly and welcoming. Each pitch has EHU, fresh water and grey waste , lovely open site and dogs are very welcome . There are lovely walks directly from site and only 3 miles to cockermouth , also easy drive to Keswick . We’ll definitely return , I can honestly say it’s one of the best places we’ve stayed ."

"We stayed here for 4 nights, & I can't fault it in any way. We arrived at 8pm, which was dark, wewe were met by Ken the owner who was very helpful, he helped us onto our pitch, & sorted out our waste pipe as it didn't reach the grey waste drain, Ken got a couple of spare pipes & we were sorted. Ken & his wife Alison are lovely people, & couldn't do enough for us & everyone else staying on site. This is a fully serviced pitch, which is kept immaculate & very very well priced for such a pitch. We we're due to leave before 12pm as stated, but as it was Hammering down with rain, Ken & Alison came over in their waterproofs to tell us not to rush, & that the rain was due to ease around tea time, so they said just wait till then.Couldnt ask for anything more from them. Will definatly be 1 of our regular sites that we visit, & I fully recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed."

"Just back from a great few days at Tranby CL Site Great Broughton in the Western Lakes. Ken and Alison are great hosts who have set up this year. Both a mine of information about the area.
A great little site, close to the coast as long as your self contained. Has electric hook up with your own tap and grey waste and on site toilet waste. Easy walk to the village and lovely walks around the site. Perfect for an escape. We will be back."

"Stayed here twice now, and we will be going back again. Such a lovely and peaceful place. The owners are lovely and very helpful. There is a good circular walk for the dog on your doorstep, and Cockermouth is a reasonably priced taxi ride away if you want to go out there."

"What a great site..dog friendly, ehu, water and grey waste to each pitch, Newly opened and really can not fault anything, with FANTASTIC host's 👌 will definitely be back 👌"

"Well, we've just come back from a wonderful motor caravanners site in Tranby, Moor Rd, Great Broughton, Cockermouth, Cumbria. Just perfect for us - a hidden gem!
The very friendly owners, Ken and Alison, couldn't have been more helpful, friendly and welcoming. They helped with the awning and provided a spare waste pipe, as ours wouldn't reach. A fabulous couple.
The site has 5 fabulous pitches, overlooking a large pond - just beautiful, and the pitches are all fully serviced. This site is perfect for those who have their own bathroom facilities.
The price per night was very reasonable, £14 per night for non members and we got such a warm welcome, beautiful scenery and site and peace and quiet. Oh and dog friendly too!
We certainly give this site 10 out of 10 and we will be back! "

"Super owners and pretty site near cockermouth.£14 fully serviced. No loos."

"Very friendly hosts. Ken did everything to make us welcome and introduced us to Alison later. Nice piece full site which we will hopefully return to. Wildlife friendly site for birdwatchers"

"Ken and Allison are the perfect hosts, very helpful and very friendly. Lovely location and site with fully serviced pitches. Will definitely return and would definitely recommend!"

"Can not fault this little site and the owners super site great value"

"We recently spent two nights at Tranby with Alison and Ken and we cannot recommend this site highly enough. It is very peaceful with a beautiful view over a small pond, home to a couple of swans and a few ducks. The local area has lovely walks and is within easy walking walking distance of the local village, where there are a couple of bars, a corner shop and a local hotel with very friendly staff where we had a nice meal.Alison and Ken were lovely hosts and went over and above to make our stay most enjoyable and relaxing, to the point of offering their services to pick us up in the evening from the local hotel. We would highly recommend you give this little site a try in the near future."

"
Enjoyed a fabulous 3 nights at this small site. Lots of space on the pitches and there was a lovely walk through the woods adjacent to the site. Great base for exploring the Lake District. Ken and Alison are amazing and were kind enough to get my order for meat from the butchers in Maryport. Best Cumberland sausage ever! I even came home with 4 tomato plants they gave me. Would definitely recommend them.

Ate at the Belle Vue Inn, Papcastle. Need to book as it was very busy. Food good and was served quickly. Too much for me to eat - brought half my steak pie home with me

"Great weekend, lovely peaceful site within walking distance of the local village. The facilities are good with water, drainage and 16amp electricity on all pitches and kept immaculately clean. Ken and Alison are great hosts. We will be back."

"This is our 2nd stay on this fabulous gem. Ken & Alison just can't do enough for people staying on site, they helped to put awning up & take down as my partners back wasn't good. The site is spotless & grass cut regularly. Beautiful location, with lovely walks & if your lucky, you'll spot the resident wild deer. I can't recommend this site highly enough, & it's definatly going to be a favourite we will return to again & again."

"Tranby CL - fairly new site.
Hosts are friendly and very helpful.
Thank you for our Jubilee cakes!
Grass pitches, each with their own EHU, water tap & grey waste point. Overlook a large pond, plenty of wildlife to see.
Also, a few metres from the entrance there is a good track for a circular walk through the village or a longer walk up to the next village. The track passes a larger piece of water, where we were treated to seeing Curlew flying overhead almost everyday, Oyster Catchers, geese and different types of ducks.
We didn't get chance to visit the award winning village pub - Punch Bowl Inn, but it is walking distance from the site.
Close enough to jump onto the A66 without traveling through tight, winding lanes - far enough away not to hear the traffic.
Cockermouth 10 mins by car for supermarket, eateries, coffee etc."

"Well, another fab break at this beautiful well maintained site! What a hidden gem it is! Ken and Alison are so friendly and greet each guest with such warmth. Great circular dog walk from the site. We will definitely be back!! Thank you Ken and Alison!"

"We've just got home after a two night stay at Ken and Alisons superb CL site(non members welcome). A lovely location overlooking a tranquil pond. Plenty of great walks for the dogs and a pleasant ten minute walk into the local village which has a local shop, bakery and three pubs. The Punchbowl(community run and a freehouse) is well recommended. Friendly locals and dog friendly..
Thank you Ken and Alison for a very pleasant stay. We'll definitely be back. Best of luck for the future. Mark and Nadine."

"Ken and Alison are both wonderful friendly owners of Tranby, who meet you on arrival and ensure that you are sited and advised where the amenities are. This is the first site that we have been to where we were offered assistance to set up, including our awning. Such a nice gesture. We spent two weeks on this lovely relaxing site. We would highly recommend Tranby and we will definitely be booking to visit again. The site is set in a lovely quiet area of the Cumbrian Western Lake District, yet only about 10 to 15 minutes drive to Cockermouth, Maryport and Workington. Approximately 30 minutes to Keswick.

"Staying on this site at the moment. Great little cl. Clean, tidy fully serviced pitch over looking a pond. walking distance to the village with a path. Great walk just outside through a woodland to a small lake/large pond. Great for dogs. Our lab is 12yrs old and the walk to the lake is just the right length. He enjoyed swimming. From there you can carry on walking to the village or many other walks/cycle rides. Definitely recommend and we will be back. Close to a bus stop. We are going to try and get a bus to Cockermouth and Keswick next week."

"Ken and Alison are great hosts, nothing too much trouble. Ken was there at arrival explaining everything about site and local area. He was there every morning and evening checking everything was ok. Cl field very clean and tidy. Grass cut short and picked up. Each pitch fully serviced, water, waste and ehu at your pitch. Elsen and bins close and very clean. Walks from the site great. 5 min to small lake, 10 min to village and river. We had a great stay and will definitely be back."

All in all lovely couple definitely worth a visit. Ian, Jane &Buddy"

"Great Cl. Exactly what we needed, dog friendly, serviced pitches, lovely walk through forest behind. Just how sites should be, Ken and Alison make your stay very enjoyable. No shower/toilet block, if this is important to you then probably not a good fit. We are happy to use onboard facilities, and with water on pitch with waste, no problems showering. Will certainly return."

"Amazing little site. I'm torn in giving a proper review for this site, being totally selfish I want to keep it to myself. All said Ken and Alison (the owners) deserve a full and honest review. This is the best CL site I've ever visited, Ken and Alison have to be the friendliest proprietors you could ever find, the site is immaculate and the surroundings amazing. For dog owners the area provides a raft of amazing walks giving the dogs maximum freedom. Other than a few yards from the site entrance to the close by bridal path the dogs are free to explore. The views across to the lakeland fells are immense and take your breath away every time you see them. I cant say enough about this little site - if you want a relaxing break there is nowhere finer. We found it by chance but just had to extend out stay and book two further visits. Thanks Ken and Alison for one of the best trips we've had.

"The people who run this site are absolutely amazing and so caring. It was our first time in a motorhome and nothing was too much trouble for them to help us, even after hiring a van with the toilet not put in properly we were brought cleaning products and gloves and 2 lovely coffees. Then to our surprise they bought us a lovely bottle of Asti as it was our honeymoon. They even helped us to get the tv working. We would recommend this lovely site and hopefully will return, thank you once again for your hospitality. Amie and Richard Baker xx"

"Tranby must be the best CL site in the North West. The site is located in beautiful countryside with an abundance of wildlife. The bird feeders provided for each pitch mean that you are only a few metres away, allowing a view of a myriad of song birds that come to feed. The owners, Ken and Alison are so friendly and obliging, nothing is to much trouble. This was our forth stay and we've already booked 4 weeks for next year and can't wait to get back. The site has so much country side on its doorstep, just waiting to be explored. I wholeheartedly recomend Tranby to anyone wanting a peaceful break.
Tips for other travellers
The town of Cockermouth is only a few miles away, well within walking distance for the more mobile of us. It has a good selection of small independent shops and takeaways. The butchers on the main street is worth special mention, not only for meat, but they also produce a wonderful variety of quality pies. The Belle Vue arms at papcastle is a must if you want to eat out."

"Our third year staying at Tranby, this year we'll be having a totally of 4 weeks at the site. I cant say enough about the owners, Ken and Alison, who go out of their way to make sure that everything is just right for the campers. The location and the wildlife pond behind provide an opertunity to see a myriad of song birds, encouraged by Ken's feeders which he has placed behind each pitch. The area is good for dog walking (or just a ramble) the views from which give an amazing vista of the norther lake district fells. All in all one of, if not the best CL site, run by the best owners you will find anywhere."

"We stayed for 3 nights at Tranby this weekend.(We only wish it could have been longer)
Ken and Alison go above and beyond to look after you.We have been numerous times now.And will keep on returning.
Tranby is soo good it feels almost like going home to family and good friends.Next time our stay Will be longer.
Every credit to Ken and Alison.
Other cl sites could learn a heck of a lot from these two. In how not to rip of the camper's! Very reasonable priced, Very welcoming. And why us and many other's keep on returning. You may arrive as strangers but you will leave as friends.Fantastic site which is a short drive into cockermouth and to some lovely beaches. Not to far from the lakes.Just idyllic. Thanks!!!
We will be back.(if there's room🤞)in a few weeks.John Julie and Bryan"

"Stayed here in our campervan May bank holiday. What an amzing little site - so tidy and well kept. 5 pitches, Owners so friendly and helpful. Fully serviced pitches and they have just added a toilet. Lovely local walks and a great little community pub in the villsge about 15mins walk. Had such a lovely peaceful stay will definately be returning. Five star stay."

"This is an absolute gem of a campsite. Great facilities, good walks adjacent, useful village shop within easy walking distance and last but not least very helpful owners"

"What a wonderful site, we are currently on our 3rd day here. Owners are really welcoming and friendly. The site is very relaxed, unlike some CCC or CMC sites. Some lovely walks right next to the site along with a village that has a little shop and 2 pubs that are open, mainly at weekends, what's not to like. 10 stars from us, we'll definitely be back.."
"V helpful and caring site owners"

"Fabulous small and very quiet site Owners very friendly and helpful Proper dog walk immediately adjacent to site which was also very quiet and scenic Would highly recommend"

"Lovely small site, quality over quantity! Very pleasant and helpful owners who take great care of the grounds and facilities. Good location to explore the western lakes with an excellent dog walk alongside. Would highly recommend to those wanting a peaceful site with fully serviced pitch."

"We loved our second visit to your site, made extra special as we were the only ones there and Dave had free rein to run around, he had a ball. Being next to the lake is such a bonus for off lead dog walks and close to Cockermouth for shopping. Thanks to you both, we will definitely be back."

"This was our 3rd visit to Tranby. We enjoy the very warm welcome from the owners, Ken and Alison, who go out of their way to ensure that all visitors have a relaxing stay, on the well kept site. Thank you Ken and Alison!"
Brilliant little site, friendly and helpful owner and a great price. WC is great addition, we really enjoyed our stay here and was a great base for touring the lakes, cpl pubs locally at weekend. We enjoyed the peacefulness and will certainly return."

"beautiful location made to feel welcome from the minute you arrive will return soon"

"Ken and Alison are a very nice couple who take care to welcome you and offer whatever assistance they can to ensure you have an enjoyable stay. For such a small site, which we actually prefer to a big site, the facilities were very good. We normally like to wild camp to get away from it but would certainly stay at Tranby again. The overnight charge is good value for money."

"This site is a little gem. It is beautifully maintained and you are guaranteed a very warm welcome upon arrival. The owners cannot do enough for you to make your stay memorable. There is a little summer house which contains local information along with books to read/exchange. It is requested that you only use green toilet fluid in your chemical toilet. This was our second visit and we will be returning soon."

"Just got to leave a review, What a wonderful little site. So peaceful, quiet, clean & tidy. Your own personal water supply & grey water drain, perfect. Small swap/exchange library and most unusual but welcome was the free wifi. Loverly hosts what more do you need."

"Just returned from another 2 week stay at Tranby, weather was horrendous but it didn't dampen our stay. A thoroughly relaxing stay despite 75mph winds, the pitches are pretty much surrounded by trees offering some protection from even the worst of weather. Ken and Alison were, as usual, at their very best. Nothing was to much trouble, they quickly become friends rather than owner's. We can't commend Tranby enough. A place to relax and enjoy the surroundings."
"our little sanctuary home fom home Loveliest site ran by Ken and Alison who can't do enough to help ya will be back soon thanks for making us your friends"
